God Sings Through Me

God Sings Through Me oversized teeRN Brand recently released its latest addition to the inspirational collection of Christian t-shirts.  The God Sings Through Me oversized tee for women and dark heather gray v-neck for me began shipping to the public Stellar Awards weekend.

I had been wanting to create a design with God Sings Through Me but the concept just never came together in my head.  I had recently collaborated with Gospel Central’s Michael Stewart, designing the Gospel Central logo and the next thing I knew, I had a concept for the God Sings Through Me shirt.  The words God Sings Through Me were inspired by my late cousin Kimberly Walton.  She loved to sing.

The London Sessions: New Music From Mary J. Blige

*Note: I participated in the Mary J Blige The London Sessions album review program as a member of bLink Marketing Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.

Mary J. Blige has been singing the soundtrack to my life for over 20 years. I saw Mary J. Blige in July during the Essence Festival and her performance served as a reminder of why she is the Queen. She took us all the way back to the 411 and I was on my feet for her entire performance. She sounded amazing and looked amazing. It’s hard to imagine that 3 months ago there was no album. But after her Essence Festival performance, I would have caught a flight to London and gone straight to the studio also.

The London Sessions is Mary J. Blige’s latest album set to be released on December 2, 2014. The London Sessions bring a new sound for Mary but definitely full of the same energy and heart that she has continued to bring to every album. Mary J. Blige collaborated with an amazing group of writers, singers and producers while in London to deliver such an album with a global perspective in mind. I have a few favorites but Whole D@#! Year and Long Hard Look are bringing it for me.

I am a fan of Mary J. Blige’s classic R&B and Hip-Hop sound but this sound she is bringing in The London Sessions is quite refreshing. I think Mary ran off to London with my journal because she definitely picked right back up from where the soundtrack of my life had ended. And this song gives me life. We have watched Mary grow right before our eyes as an artist and in her personal life. No matter what she was going through, she was still bringing us music to keep us moving. I am glad to see her at this place in her life, happy and expressing herself freely through her music. You can pre-order the Album on iTunes and Amazon. You can also check out the trailer for The London Sessions and get an idea about the inspiration behind the album.

2014 Soul Train Music Awards Presented by Centric

Soul Train Music Awards

The 2014 Soul Train Music Awards were filmed last night in Las Vegas, NV at The Orleans Hotel and Casino.  I had the privilege to cover the red carpet for Gospel Central.  So many reunions took place last night, not just on the red carpet but also on the stage.  I had the opportunity to speak to  many of my favorite groups and artist of the 90’s and when they hit the stage…let me just say they still got it!  You will have to stay tuned for some of the interviews that were captured.  Also, be sure to catch the show hosted by Wendy Williams on Centric, November 30, 2014 at 8pm/7C.

Michelle Williams: If We Had Your Eyes

Today’s post is inspired by Michelle Williams latest single  If We Had Your Eyes from her upcoming fourth album titled Journey to Freedom which is scheduled for release in 2014.   Michelle Williams is a member of Destiny Child, as well as a solo artist and actress.  The lyrics from this song contain a very powerful message:

People judge from what they see
But Lord you see the whole world

If we had Your eyes
We’d see things right
If we could just see from Your point view
The most things won’t be as they seem
If we had Your eyes
If we had Your eyes

We have to be able to see beyond the surface and into the hearts of others.  We may never know what a person is going through but if we could show more compassion or  give words of encouragement instead of judgement the world would be a much better place.  Reminds me of one of my favorite passages, ” Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:34-40

If you have not watched the video or heard the single yet take a listen.

Reset: New Album by Isaac Carree

isaac-carree-300x208I have been anticipating the release of Isaac Carree”s solo Sophomore album, since the release of the single Clean This House.  Isaac Carree, Reset, the title of the Sophmore album will be available in stores on June 25, 2013.  If you follow the award-winning artist on Social Cam then you have had the pleasure of hearing some snippets on Music Mondays.  Today a snippet of Paradise was shared with followers.   He also shares the inspiration behind the title of the album, “Just when you were ready to throw in the towel and give up, you can just reach over there and press that reset button and start all over again.  It’s never too late to begin again”.

I think we have all been in that place before.   The album will also feature guest appearances from Le’Andria Johnson, Kierra Sheard and James Fortune.  Here are some of the lyrics from Paradise:

“Everybody wants to go there but nobody wants to die.  So if you want to see Him, you gotta live this life right.  Nothing is for certain but this one things for sure, we’re all going to leave here, I pray I make it through them doors…can’t wait to get to paradise, can’t wait to get to paradise.”  Take a listen here and keep visiting social cam for the latest on Music Mondays from Isaac Carree.

RHOA’s Kandi Burruss New Gospel Song

kandiKandi Burruss, singer, songwriter, producer and Reality TV star recently announced that she was working on a gospel song and collaboration with Marvin Sapp. Kandi is known for her R&B career with the group Xscape, as well as being a very accomplished producer and songwriter. Now this part of her resume does not raise any questions. However, Kandi recently posted a statement on her Facebook fanpage with regards to her late night show, Kandi Koated Nights and her adult line.

Here is what she had to say:
“On this episode of #RHOA you see part of the gospel song I was working on. I knew when I decided to do it that I would be criticized. That’s to be expected. I’m a single mom that had a child out of wedlock, I speak openly about sex on #KandiKoatedNights, I have #BedroomKandi, etc… I’m very honest about who I am. My great grand father & my grandfather were Bishops in The Church of God Holiness. I believe in God but I have always struggled with the rules of the church just like a lot of people. The song “Stay Prayed Up” is like a testimony for me. Hopefully people with a similar struggle can relate. I’m posting the lyrics to the hook. I’m looking forward to you hearing the whole song next week!”

I can’t agree with her more, yes we have our own struggles and/or are working through something and we must “stay prayed up”. But I’m still confused. So I am just going to leave it at that. These transitions happen often, whether it’s R&B to Gospel or Gospel to R&B, some smooth and some not so much. What are your thoughts? No judgement just thoughts.

Tamela MannTake Me To The King by Tamela Mann, one of my favorite releases in 2012 is up for a Grammy nomination.  The 2013 Grammy award weekend has kicked off with all the Pre-Grammy events taking place and leading up to the big day.  Tamela Mann’s nomination is in the category for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance.  Mary Mary, Marvin Sapp, Matt Redman and Casting Crowns have also been nominated in this category.  I will be cheering for Tamela Mann.  I simply love the song and she did a phenomenal job at the Stellar Awards.

If you are in Las Vegas on this Monday, February 11, 2013, you can also catch a live performance from Tamela Mann.  Tamela Mann and The Las Vegas 10 Tenors will be performing at the Las Vegas Hilton.  Tickets are now available, doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.

“Truth is I’m tired, options are few.  I’m trying to pray but where are you.  I’m all churched out, hurt and abused….Take me to the King, I don’t have much to bring.  My heart is torn in pieces, its my offering.” ~ Take Me To The King

Tasha Cobbs: New Album Grace

Credits: EMI Gospel

Credits: EMI Gospel

Tasha Cobbs released her debut album with EMI Gospel today titled Grace today.  Break Every Chain was the first single to be released from the album which built the anticipation and put the album at #1 before its release.  Tasha Cobbs heart for worship is so pure and she just ushers you into His presence.  I have so many favorites from her first independent album, Smile.  I am sure I am going to enjoy Grace.  If you haven’t heard Break Every Chain, take a listen.  She is also looking fabulous on the cover.  Cobbs has shed some weight and that can be a testimony alone of how God can Break Every Chain.

“There is power in the name of Jesus…to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.”

Isaac Carree: Clean This House

“Clean this house, from the inside out.  Restore me, take away my impurities.”  I recently heard “Clean This House” by Isaac Carree, a single that is Clean this houseexpected to be on his album that is to be released summer of 2013.   At the start of the song, I thought to myself wow, R. Kelly is doing gospel but I soon realized that though the sound was quite similar it was none other than Isaac Carree.  This song is sung as a heartfelt prayer.  I connected instantly with the lyrics.  I know I’ve been in that place where I needed God to do a complete work on my heart, mind and soul.  I love how some music has a way of communicating the prayer that is in our heart.  It has been a little over a week since the single was released and it is definitely creating a buzz.  You can download the single now on iTunes.  I would love to hear what you think of the single.

Since the release of the single, Isaac Carree has been mentioned in a not so good light.  I can only pray that whatever the situation may be that restoration and forgiveness can take place between all parties involved.  We really have to hold one another up in prayer.  It doesn’t matter the platform on which we serve and minister to God’s people, we are all in need of prayer and not free from making mistakes.  However, the transgressions of man should never be used as a source of entertainment or news but let a lesson be learned.  We all have to give an account in the end.

Logan McWilliams: aka Logan Mac Sings The Chicken Song

If you haven’t heard the “Chicken Song” by now then you are probably living under a rock.  Okay maybe not a rock but have been on some sort of hiatus.  I actually heard the song a few weeks ago shortly after it had been uploaded.  Something told me then that it was going to go viral.  No sooner than the thought crossed my mine, I began to see the video being shared by various sites.  I first saw it on World Star Hip Hop, then Madame Noire and just recently the opening for the Chelsea Lately show to name a few.  At that point, I had to reach out because I knew there was something more to the story.

I was surprised when I discovered that she was a teacher not looking for a way out of her career but a way to sustain it.  Logan McWilliams loves working as a teaching in Oakland, CA.    In fact, when asked why she uploaded the song her response was, “so that my students wouldn’t have to struggle”.  Logan is a great singer and songwriter.  She has posted multiple videos of her singing various covers of different artist.  But it was something about the “chicken song’ that captured our attention. If you haven’t already watched the Youtube video, you can play it here.  My extended article will appear in The Answer Newspaper in Las Vegas.

You can also check out another Logan Mac original titled “Real Love“.
