Tina Campbell: “It’s Personal” Debut Solo Album Set To Release

Available online May 7th

Available online May 7th

Tina Campbell is gearing up to release her debut solo album “It’s Personal” and memoir “I Need A Day To Pray” on the same day. Tina Campbell, Grammy award winning gospel artist and WEtv Reality star of Mary Mary, is set to release her highly anticipated album and memoir May 7th.

If you have been watching this season of WEtv’s Mary Mary Reality show, you have heard a portion of Tina Campbell’s testimony of forgiveness after infidelity.  She also talks about while going through her process of healing how she began to journal and how the music began to be poured into her.  One of my favorite interviews that she did on the show is with WBLS. Call me bias because she is wearing a “My Scars” tee during the interview but her transparency is a blessing.  You can listen to the full WBLS interview.

“It’s Personal” will feature the current inspirational single “Destiny”.  “I’ve got a

destination in my view. The road may be bumpy getting there but I’m pressing through.  I will enjoy this journey no matter come what may. I’ll become better, and stronger and wiser every day. I’ve got a vision and a purpose, a divine destiny.  It may not look like it right now but faith ain’t what I see.  It is the things I hope for believing that it will come and that no matter how long it takes. I know God’s will shall be done.”  I’ve been listening to this song since last year when I saw a video of her performing it live.

I know that I will be grabbing my copy of both “It’s Personal” and “I Need A Day To Pray”.  So keep your eye out for a review coming soon.  Tina Campbell the process of your healing is so familiar to me. “I show my scars so that others know they can heal”. I wrote, I prayed, I cried, I questioned but in the midst of it all He was giving me a vision for my purpose, Destiny. Though “It’s personal” we understand that our testimonies are not for us but to bring hope to a lost and dying world. Thank you for showing your scars to the world!

The London Sessions: New Music From Mary J. Blige

*Note: I participated in the Mary J Blige The London Sessions album review program as a member of bLink Marketing Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.

Mary J. Blige has been singing the soundtrack to my life for over 20 years. I saw Mary J. Blige in July during the Essence Festival and her performance served as a reminder of why she is the Queen. She took us all the way back to the 411 and I was on my feet for her entire performance. She sounded amazing and looked amazing. It’s hard to imagine that 3 months ago there was no album. But after her Essence Festival performance, I would have caught a flight to London and gone straight to the studio also.

The London Sessions is Mary J. Blige’s latest album set to be released on December 2, 2014. The London Sessions bring a new sound for Mary but definitely full of the same energy and heart that she has continued to bring to every album. Mary J. Blige collaborated with an amazing group of writers, singers and producers while in London to deliver such an album with a global perspective in mind. I have a few favorites but Whole D@#! Year and Long Hard Look are bringing it for me.

I am a fan of Mary J. Blige’s classic R&B and Hip-Hop sound but this sound she is bringing in The London Sessions is quite refreshing. I think Mary ran off to London with my journal because she definitely picked right back up from where the soundtrack of my life had ended. And this song gives me life. We have watched Mary grow right before our eyes as an artist and in her personal life. No matter what she was going through, she was still bringing us music to keep us moving. I am glad to see her at this place in her life, happy and expressing herself freely through her music. You can pre-order the Album on iTunes and Amazon. You can also check out the trailer for The London Sessions and get an idea about the inspiration behind the album.

Domestic Violence: James Fortune Arrested For Striking His Wife With A Barstool

James FortuneOn October 23rd, it was reported that Grammy nominated gospel singer James Fortune was arrested for assault against a family member.  The details surrounding the situation were vague not letting on to who Fortune had assaulted.  Fortune was released the next day posting a $20,000 bond.  Since the news first broke more details are being reported and identifying the victim as Fortune’s wife.  He is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  The details are also stating that Fortune’s wife may have suffered from a broken or fractured leg or pelvis after bring struck with a barstool.  You can read more here

As a domestic violence advocate, I often say that domestic violence does not discriminate against one’s faith, gender, socioeconomic status, sexuality or age.  I am sure that quite a few people also wonder why I always have a Pastor on the My Scars Chat panel discussion.  I think it is very important for the faith community to be equipped in handling domestic violence and also connected to the domestic violence organizations in their community.  We can not turn a deaf ear or blind eye to those within the pews or in the pulpit because of the title they carry when someone’s life could be in danger.

I pray the James Fortune gets the help that he needs and that his family can also begin the healing process.  You never know how long this may have been going on but I pray for his wife that she finds strength and peace to carry on.  No one should ever be subjected to such treatment.  If you know someone that may be experiencing domestic violence, please do not hesitate to reach out and encourage them to seek the necessary help, prayer is always needed but a way of escape can save a life.

I want to share some of the lyrics of Fortune’s song Identity:

Sitting here alone thinking of you
I’m blown away
You never gave up on me
Time after time I let you down
So caught up and focused on me
My own desires get in the way
I should be finding my purpose in you
So I can be what you have for me

[Pre Chorus:]
I need you to search me oh God,
I want to be just like you
So that you can be seen when they see me

[Verse 2:]
You know my thoughts
You know my heart
Along the way I’ve made mistakes
But thank you for grace
Hiding my flaws so they can see you

[Chorus:]
Lord I want to change
Take it away whatever it is
That’s my desire
I want your heart

These words sound like the sentiments of Fortune’s prayer.  Sometimes God has to expose our hearts in order to heal them.

Erica Campbell: Help {Video}

I love this song and the video! The words are the very sentiments of my heart right now.  Erica Campbell did an excellent job and I love how she included her daughter Krista.  She is definitely training her up.

Lyrics:  “Said I do, but to tell the truth sometimes I don’t…I need a lifeline right now 911 won’t do, my backs against the wall now, done all that I could do….Help, help, Lord I need your help.”

Mary Mary Season 3 Starts February 27th

Mary Mary Season 3The countdown to Mary Mary Season 3 has begun.  The gospel singing duo will return to WeTV on Thursday, February 27th @ 9pm Est.  We have definitely been witness to some ups and downs while anticipating the new season.  From Tina Campbell discussing the infidelity of her husband, the death of their father and Erica Campbell launching her solo career, these two sisters and their families have gone through a lot.  It will be interesting to see how they hold it all together behind the scenes when their faith is tested.  Watch the preview.  Will you be tuning in?

Michelle Williams: If We Had Your Eyes

Today’s post is inspired by Michelle Williams latest single  If We Had Your Eyes from her upcoming fourth album titled Journey to Freedom which is scheduled for release in 2014.   Michelle Williams is a member of Destiny Child, as well as a solo artist and actress.  The lyrics from this song contain a very powerful message:

People judge from what they see
But Lord you see the whole world

If we had Your eyes
We’d see things right
If we could just see from Your point view
The most things won’t be as they seem
If we had Your eyes
If we had Your eyes

We have to be able to see beyond the surface and into the hearts of others.  We may never know what a person is going through but if we could show more compassion or  give words of encouragement instead of judgement the world would be a much better place.  Reminds me of one of my favorite passages, ” Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:34-40

If you have not watched the video or heard the single yet take a listen.

Le’Andria Johnson Clears The Air Regarding Matthew Knowles

Le'Andria JohnsonLe’Andria Johnson, BET’s Sunday Best season 3 winner, has been signed to Music World Gospel label owned and operated by Matthew Knowles since she won the title.  Johnson has since gone on to win a Grammy and multiple Stellar awards, being a very promising addition to the labels credits.  On Friday, November 1, 2013 someone took to Le’Andria Johnson’s twitter account to express some disdain towards Matthew Knowles and the way in which he chooses to conduct business.  Since then a press release had been issued on behalf of Le’Andria Johnson stating, “Ms. Johnson did not post the message on her twitter account.  A disgruntled associate has admitted to the posting and will be disciplined.”  Said Christopher Brown, of Brown & Rosen LLC, legal counsel to Ms. Johnson.  “The problem has been handled.  The posting should never have appeared and I regret that this has occurred.”  Said Le’Andria Johnson.

In September, Rhachellenicol.com hosted a virtual press conference with Le’Andria Johnson and 30+ bloggers to get up close and personal with some of her fans.  At no time did Johnson express any ill feelings toward the label but a passion for music and ministry.  You can check out what she had to say on For Colored Gurls and you can also read more about Le’Andria Johnson in a one on one interview that was conducted with her in August.
