“No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.” Mark 3:27
A stronghold is anything or anyone that stands in between you being in the will of God. It seeks to keep you bound spiritually, emotionally, financially, etc. It can bring a temporary satisfaction or fleeting pleasure but it will leave you feeling guilty or shameful. It will come in the most innocent forms but leave devastating impacts.
It will start with the little things that we think we can get away with, drinking, smoking, cursing, lying, etc and snowball into something bigger. A drink at the bar may lead to lusting after him or her then fornication. One can tell their parents a “little white lie” that turns into a dangerous situation. It becomes those little things that become the big things that hold us down, that seem impossible to cease, that we then begin to make excuses for why we continue to do them; Its just a little drink and I’m just a social drinker. The fact is you’re in the midst of your sins.
Then we find ourselves dealing with that guilt and shame, which can eventually push us completely out of fellowship with God. You start seeking other worldly pleasures to ease the pain. “Wordly weapons cannot bring about the kingdom of God.”
Strongholds make it hard to ask for forgiveness because of the strong hold that they have on us. Asking for forgiveness would require one to recognize the action requiring forgiveness and ceasing to indulge.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
When we recognize that we have sinned, we need to ask for forgiveness and believe that God will restore us. For all have sinned and fell short of the glory of God. The scripture says pray without ceasing. This means we need to be in constant communication with God, whether it be praying, keeping him on our mind, in our thoughts and in our heart.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
We are in a spiritual battle and we must equip ourselves and understand the God that we serve. We must feed the spirit and kill the flesh allowing us to overcome the spirit that seeks to kill, steal and destroy. Only then will we be able to rest in peace, speak of joy and exalt his name in praise in worship that will make the devil tremble.
Luke 11:21 says “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace;
